Ridgedale Counseling
Compassionate Therapy for Children, Teens, Families and Adults
My goal is to create a special space where clients feel understood, supported, and able to make meaningful progress in their lives. Whether you’re seeking therapy for a child, navigating family challenges, or working through anxiety, depression, or life transitions, Ridgedale Counseling aims to provide enough depth, clarity, and insight to truly help you and your loved-ones thrive and flourish.
Professional Approach
Therapy That Feels Supportive — and Actually Helps You Move Forward
For adults, therapy should feel like a break from the stress and noise of everyday life, while subtly imparting the insight and wisdom needed to feel motivated and hopeful when you return to the challenges that brought you into therapy. After initially getting to know each other, I draw from the latest empirically verified practices to create an environment that is healing, supportive, and engaging. Each session is designed to meet you where you are, answer the questions you may have, and enable you to have the confidence to press forward.
When it comes to children, I have had the privilege of assisting many in the various developmental, academic, transitional, and familial stressors that inevitably arise, and I love achieving success in helping my little clients gain resilience and growth. I know how important it is to support the parents as well, even when we think we don’t need it. Therefore, I have worked hard to create a space where children, teens, and their parents, look forward to our visits. Because I take a "systems" approach, collaboration with other professionals in the child's life (such as Teachers, Doctors, etc.) is a priority. Enabling a unified "team" to be in full support of your child makes achieving treatment goals quicker, and easier.
Regarding Couples counseling, there is solid research that many of the mental health problems which afflict individuals in a relationship can be fully resolved by addressing their relationship itself. Some therapists incorrectly assume that couples who seek counseling always want to just improve their relationship, but this is not always the case. Because of this, I use the time-limited (no more than a few sessions) Discernment Counseling approach to first determine where each member of the relationship is at, and whether to continue. If it is decided by all parties that ending the relationship is in everyone's best interest, I provide grounded experience in navigating the legal/un-coupling stress this course of action entails. If it is decided to work on the relationship, we transition to a Gottmann based approach (with elements of attachment-theory added in).
